Prime Minister Gillard – Nuclear or No Nuclear Madam, please be clear!

I know my website is about algae and aquatic biofuels, but I couldn’t help but write a posting about a distressing article I saw on the Daily Telegraph yesterday.

Now it seems very clear by statements made by our Prime Minister Ms. Gillard that the Government is against nuclear power, for what I think are obvious reasons. She claims in the Daily Telegraph dated December 01, 2010 that she “welcomes debate but a change of policy is highly improbable” She adds to that “But I’m not going to be there saying to people ‘Don’t come and put your views’.”

Now I was bewildered and astonished at reading the front page of the Daily Telegraph of yesterday February 25, 2011. Besides the disasterous photo of the New Zealand earthquake, Ms. Gillard on the bottom of the page announces that “Australians will be slugged at least AU$300 a year more for power bills”. Ms Gillard has established the carbon tax.

Ms. Gillard appears to be at the forefront when it comes to being against nuclear, yet, the idea of the carbon tax will only make people angry and will make people want to look for an alternative, furthermore the open nuclear debate will only encourage people to talk about it and the only solution they will find available is the nuclear option, making it look as though it was the people’s choice and not the Governments.

Am I the only one seeing this?
